Jail warning to man with 20,000 child porn images

A MAN with ocular cancer accused of having more than 20,000 images of child pornography on his computer pleaded guilty to all charges at Gloucester Crown Court.

Ramzi Gamal, of Barrington Road, Upper Rissington, admitted one charge of making an indecent photograph of a child, 15 of making indecent photographs and admitted possessing 21,031 indecent images of children when he appeared in court last Friday.

On June 10 last year a warrant was executed by police at the 47-year-old's home and computers and other equipment taken. These were found to contain 20,608 level one images, 78 level two images, 130 level three images, 156 level four images and three level five images.

Level one images are considered the least offensive with level five images of a strong content including sadomasochism.

On January 6, Gamal had been given unconditional bail by Cheltenham Magistrates so he could fly to the Philippines.

They made the decision after hearing that he had been diagnosed with ocular cancer and is already blind in one eye.

Gamal, formally married to a Filipino, believed he may have only two or three years before he was completely blind.

He wanted to fly to the Philippines to see the grandparents of his daughter and other family relatives before he loses his sight.

Christian Sweeney, representing Gamal, requested a pre-sentence report.

Judge Julian Lambert told Gamal: "All options are open to this court in sentencing you. The court of appeal guidance says you should expect a custodial sentence."

Gamal will appear at Gloucester Crown Court on May 13 to be sentenced and was released on unconditional bail.
