New guidelines to help vulnerable children

VULNERABLE children in Gloucestershire will get extra help following the launch of new guidelines by the county council.

More than 1,000 teachers, learning support workers and school nurses have been given training to follow the Child Action Model, which supports vulnerable children who may need some help, but not so much that Social Services need to intervene.

Helen Price, manager of Gloucestershire's Child Action Project, which has launched the new model, said: "Families really like it. For the first time this is an assessment they really understand and which helps them to make changes. It's not just about professionals intervening."

"By this time next year the county hopes to have at least one person in every school in Gloucestershire able to assess children according to the new model."
