Planning success brings £m grant

HIGH levels of performance have won West Oxfordshire District Council's planning department a grant of more than £780,000 from the Government.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has pledged the planning delivery grant to enable the council to invest in further improvements.

"For a small rural authority such as ours, gaining one of the highest awards in the country is fantastic news," said Cllr Verena Hunt, responsible for planning. "It acknowledges the excellent work carried out by both officers and members."

The money will be spent on a variety of things with priority given to projects such as to provide full details of planning proposals for public viewing via the website.

Further improvements to information technology systems to enable a more effective and efficient service are also likely, together with initiatives relating to the requirements of the new Planning Act.
