Help us bring sport to the poor, says Ed

A STOW graduate is appealing for help and advice in a bid to bring some sport and fun into the lives of orphans.

Ed Shaw, a 23-year-old sports science graduate, is hoping people will support his plan to take his coaching skills to disadvantaged children in Africa and the South Pacific.

Ed, who will make the trip with Lincoln University friends Will Lawrence and Gaz Short, wants to teach youngsters basic sports and games that do not need any expensive equipment.

"There are lots of companies who go out to Africa and coach kids in football and rugby - but if you go to some of the poorer areas if they break a ball they can't go out and buy another one.

"So we are going to do basic things from varieties of tag, team-bonding games and variations on the Bangladeshi national sport kabadi."

He is now calling on Cotswold people to give him some practical advice about how to raise the £7,000 needed for the trip later this summer.

Fund-raising will get under way when Ed's sister Jaime does a skydive in Cambridge.

Anyone with ideas for fund-raising, or who would like to make a donation, can call Ed on 01451 830298.
