First step to Lord's final

THE road to Lord's gets under way for a number of local sides this weekend when opening group matches take place in the 2005 npower Village Cup.

Reigning Cotswold Hills League champions Overbury are set to play host to Ashton, while fellow league outfit Twyning entertain Slaughters United.

Exhall and Wixford, runners-up to Overbury and finalists at Lord's last season, start their bid to go one better with a home tie against Gracedieu Park on Sunday, May 8.

There will also be second round matches on that date for first time entrants Offenham, if they win at Garnons this weekend, Dumbleton, if they can get past 1998 finalists Apperley, and Bredon who play host to Wickwar.
