Campden quartet win national title

FOUR students at Chipping Campden School have been crowned British Schools Senior Tennis Mixed Doubles Champions.

The team, consisting of Ross and Abbey Tugwood, Emily Aston and Adam Moran, travelled to Bolton to take part in the two-day event. The team was captained by Ross Tugwood and managed by the school's sports partnership co-ordinator, Sophie Corbett.

Seventy schools had originally competed and Campden was one of the eight schools to reach the final, run by the Lawn Tennis Association.

To reach the final, the Campden team beat Canon Slade, Lancashire, St Bede's, Sussex and Copleston, Suffolk.

In the final itself, the Campden team had to play four matches against Leicester Grammar, winning three of them, to be crowned British Champions and presented with a silver cup and winners' medals by Venetia Cosier, LTA National Schools Manager.

Jeff Price, headteacher, said: "This is a brilliant success. The school is so proud of these talented young sportsmen and women.

"The school has more than its fair share of budding tennis stars. I am immensely grateful to Miss Corbett for the encouragement she has given these young people."
