Olympic rower helping pupils to 'rise and shine'

OLYMPIC rower Guin Batten has visited the Cotswold School to help launch a new scheme that will encourage pupils to 'rise and shine.'

The school has set up a breakfast club which gives youngsters the chance to take part in a variety of physical activities from 8am to 8.30am before having a healthy breakfast.

The club has been set up as part of a scheme called Living for Sport which is funded by the Youth Sports Trust and BskyB.

School spokeswoman Jenny Madgwick said: "Living for sport works on the principle that any form of structured exercise can be used to make the pupil become more self-disciplined and confident while building self-esteem and self-awareness.

"As part of the scheme 'mentor athletes' have been nominated to visit schools and we are lucky enough to have Olympic rower Guin Batten - part of the crew that won Britain's first ever female rowing medal at Sydney, when they brought home a silver."

Guin visited the school last Thursday and addressed the youngsters on the importance of taking physical exercise - and decent breakfasts.
