Queen to be crowned during village May Day celebration

BLOCKLEY villagers will be holding their traditional May Day celebrations on Monday.

The event at St George's Hall starts at 2pm with the crowning of the May Queen, Aimie Parton, aged 15, along with her attendants Charlotte Santry, 12, and Alice Walker, 14.

This will be followed by Maypole Dancing by children from Blockley School and a fete with stalls and games to raise funds for the village's Jubilee Centre.

Organiser Fay Jeffrey said she hoped the event would get lots of support.

"The centre provides facilities for children's groups such as the Jubilee Youth Club and the Playschool.

Funds are needed this year not only for running costs and refurbishment of the ageing building but also to include facilities for the disabled and to update the kitchen.

It is hoped also to open a drop-in cafe for the teenagers but the problem here is not funding but volunteers to staff it."

For more information or to book a stall at the fete, call Mrs Jeffrey on 01386 700452.
