Cups help rugby club mark 125th anniversary

A PACKED week of events to mark the 125th anniversary of rugby in Stow got under way with a visit from the sport's most prestigious silverware.

The World Cup, along with the Calcutta Cup, which is contested by England and Scotland and the league-winners Zurich cup were all at the club last Friday.

On hand to admire the trophies were more than 100 children from eight local primary schools who took part in a tag rugby festival.

The celebrations are set to continue on Saturday when club members don Victorian kit to play a Presidents' XV of former players according to the rules of 1879, when the club was formed.

On the same day, which will be rounded off with an anniversary dinner and dance, all mini and junior age groups will take on teams from Shipston Rugby Club.
