Suspected overdose killed rocker's partner

LISA Pritchett-Johnson, the girlfriend of the late Who bassist John Entwistle, had probably taken a fatal overdose of cocaine, US police believe.

The 43-year-old was found dead on her bed in a suburban Memphis home last month with 1.6grams of cocaine at her side.

Police were called to a house in Bartlett, near Memphis, Tenessee, at 7.30pm on March 6, by a member of the household. She had been dead for several hours.

Speaking last week, police lieutenant Glen Williamson said: "We are still waiting on final toxicology reports, but the pre-death investigation was looking at an overdose."

Lieutenant Williamson added that, unlike in Britain, no inquest will be required to record a verdict of suicide, accident or misadventure.

Final confirmation of her death will be available within six to eight weeks, once the lab results are returned.

Ms Pritchett-Johnson lived with the legendary rock star at his mansion in Stow until his death in Las Vegas in June 2002.
