The Wickhamford racer was confident in the wet conditions during Friday's free practice sessions as both he and teammate Tom Sykes grabbed first and third provisional places on the grid for qualifying the next day.
Towards the end of the second session, though, Andrews fund himself hitting the track.
"Towards the summit of Clay Hill, having just finished my last gear changes from fourth, fifth to sixth, the front wheel just pawed the air and as it came down, it oscillated so much that, on impact with the tarmac, the bike and I parted company," Andrews recalled.
"I remember hitting the first of the static straw bales, which winded me but I carried on through five more sets, travelling some 300 yards before stopping.
"I was knocked unconscious by the impact and was declared unfit to ride for the rest of the weekend."
It later materialised that Andrews had fractured a kneecap is fractured and he is currently in a leg brace awaiting the results of further x-rays.
"I did have an input with the tyre selection that helped Tom and the team secure their first win in the championship but I will have to wait and see whether I am signed fit to ride at Mondello Park on May 15," Andrews concluded.
