EBA president is the chief guest at refurbished club

BIDFORD Bowls Club has proudly opened its newly refurbished premises.

The rustic wooden building, which has stood on the Salford Road site for the past 53 years, has been almost entirely replaced by a brick structure.

The updated facilities include an ample sized clubroom, changing rooms and the luxury of indoor toilets!

The opening ceremony was attended by John Tolley, president of the English Bowling Association, who also presented the prizes to competition winners, Phil Green, president of Warwickshire County BA who was accompanied by senior vice-president, Bob Taylor.

Also in attendance was Tony Laurens, president of the South Warwickshire Association, district councillors, Brian Slaughter, Peter Barnes and Kim James and parish councillors Fred Hiscocks and Joy Keeley and Hedley Langston, chairman of Crawford Hall.

Club president, Ian Wilkins, welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation to Stratford- on-Avon District Council for the generous grant that had enabled the club to carry out the improvements.

He also thanked the district and parish councillors for their support and praised club chairman Gordon Locke for his invaluable work in bringing the project to fruition.

Councillor Slaughter said that he and his fellow councillors had been pleased to support the club in its bid for financial assistance. He added that the process had not been without its difficulties, but the efforts had been worthwhile. He ended by proposing a toast to the club and its future success.
