TEWKESBURY'S first team got their County League Division One season off to a winning start with a four-wicket defeat of Fairford.
Aron Cherry's pace caused problems at the top of the Fairford order before the introduction of John Allcoat (5-14) saw the visitors slump to 124-8.
Only some lusty blows by Mark Gre-ener ensured Fairford made a competitive total of 137 as Steve Bowers mopped up the tail with figures of 3-18.
Tewkesbury's reply started unconvincingly with both openers back in the pavilion with only four runs on the board. However, Allcoat (36) and Cherry (46) put the innings back on track before a mid innings wobble saw four quick wickets fall.
It was left to skipper Tom Brown to steer his side home with 48 not out.
The club's second team made it two wins out of two after a 40-run success over Fairford's second string. Tewkesbury made 182 with Matt Scanlan making 48 and then bowled out the visitors for 152.
The senior team entertains Cheltenham Civil Service at the Swilgate on Saturday.
