Fund to pay for nurse

COTSWOLD fund-raisers have been thanked for their help in bringing a new specialist nurse to Gloucestershire.

The Cobalt Unit Appeal Fund has pledged £100,000 to employ a nurse to look after patients with cancers of the blood and lymphatic system. The nurse, who will be based at Cheltenham General Hospital, will be an expert in leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

The fund decided to support the post after discussions with the Three Counties Cancer Network and the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust about where its money was most needed.

Cobalt appeal chairman Dick Greenslade said: "This new post is the first of a number of projects worth a total of around £1.6million that the charity is funding to improve the detection and treatment of cancer.

"Everyone who has supported a Cobalt Appeal Fund event or made a donation can be sure that their contributions are making a difference for local people diagnosed with the disease."
