Journal helps garden project

TWO campaigning mums who raised more than £100,000 to build a playground in Shipston are ready to add to their achievements, thanks to an appeal in the Cotswold Journal.

Jackie Warner and Shirley Balhatchet, with the help of former town mayor Angela Noyce, saw their dreams come true last year when they opened a new play area on Mayo Road for disabled and able-bodied children.

Now they are ready to build a sensory garden at the site. "We appealed in the Journal for a contractor who would be able to help us with this project and Tony Byrd Landscapes from near Pershore came forward. They have offered to do it for us at a good price.

"We already have our wonderful play area and now we're going to have this new garden - which is going to be lovely."

Work is expected to start on the new garden within weeks.

Last week Jackie and Shirley were presented with the town council's Anne Sankey award for their services to the community.
