Security top of police initiative

GLOUCESTERSHIRE pol-ice has launched a six-week spring crackdown on crime in the Cotswolds with events in Moreton and Stow.

Operation Springboard, an initiative aimed at tackling crimes such as violence, burglary, vehicle crime and fraud, was launched on Monday.

The enforcement side of the campaign will include targeting known offenders and suspects, alongside a number of high-profile operations.

The crackdown was launched at Tesco supermarket in Stow, from the North Cotswolds mobile police station.

Today, PC Mark Godsland, crime reduction officer for the Cotswolds, is due to speak about crime reduction issues at Cotswolds District Council's area centre in Moreton from 2pm to 4pm.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Polin said: "This will be a far-reaching campaign aimed at tackling key offences and providing reassurance to people throughout the county.

"Almost everybody in the force will be involved to some extent and we are determined to have a big impact on reducing offences and increasing detections in areas such as violent crime, burglary, vehicle crime and fraud.

"Of course, any other offences that come to light during the operation will also be investigated and we are confident that the six weeks will yield some very good results."

He added that getting the general public to think about their personal security - and that of their homes, gardens and vehicles - was a vital part of the operation.

"Our mobile police stations will be visiting towns and villages across the division over the next seven days, with officers on hand to offer crime reduction advice and speak with residents about their crime concerns," he said.

The division's display shed, a visual prop that shows how people can maximise the security of their garden shed, will also be touring the district.
