Pub's £4,000 fun day

A FUN day organised by the licensees of a Stow pub raised at least £3,800 for local youngsters.

A raffle, barbecue, live band, face painting, pub games, dog obedience trials, raffles and tombola were among the attractions of the Cash For Kids event, which raised funds for Stow Primary School and the town's Youth Club.

A sponsored bicycle ride, around a shortened Donnington Way, was started by Temple Guiting's Robert Llewellyn, star of Red Dwarf and Scrap Heap Challenge.

Further funds were raised by Stow Primary's Parent-Teacher Association running stalls on Stocks Green and by Stow firefighters and youth club members washing cars in the Square.

Money was still coming in yesterday but the total was rapidly approaching £4,000.

It was organised by a committee headed by John Bate and June Cooke, landlord and landlady of the Queen's Head, along with their son, Steve Bate, and his wife, Kathryn.

Kathryn said: "I would like to say many thanks to all those people who worked really hard to make the day happen and to the local shops and small businesses who donated raffle prizes. It was a brilliant day for the community and we hope that there can be more events in the future."
