Club in balance

THE future of Shipston Sports Club looks set to be discussed later this month.

The club's treasurer, Mick Connor, has approached the town council for support amid concerns about the funding of the club.

Members hoped a meeting with the town mayor, Stephen Grey, would be held on Tuesday evening but it did not go ahead.

Cllr Grey said he was not avoiding the meeting and had been offered three dates by the club that he was unable to make. However, he hoped to set a date before the end of the month.

He added: "We will not be able to put any money aside for the sports club until November's precept meeting. It's most probable that the town council will support the club if they put together the right sort of proposal but if we are just asked to hand the money over it might prove more challenging."
