Cherry the top pick!

TEWKESBURY overcame a spirited Fairford side by 14 runs at the Swilgate last Saturday to maintain their promotion push.

Surprisingly asked to bat, the home batsmen gleefully accepted the challenge and quickly set about the Fairford bowlers.

Aron Cherry was particularly severe and powered his way to a brutal 77. He was ably supported by John Allcoat (33) and Stuart Tame (22), while Dan Clarke added a quickfire 17.

Fairford lost a wicket in the first over but gamely took the attack to their hosts and, with Clarke scoring 51 and Bullock 47, they looked to be putting the chasers into a winning position.

The young Tewkesbury team held its nerve, and any catches that came their way, to record a hard-fought victory.

Cherry took 3-29 with James Roberts and Allcoat both picking up a couple of scalps.

This weekend the second string will be hoping to continue its promotion push with a game against Cheltenham Civil Service (2pm).
