Green for go as Sherdons festival hailed a success

TWELVE Primary Schools took part in a Tri-Golf Festival at Sherdons Golf Centre near Tewkesbury.

Owner Richard Chatham and Alan Beard, the borough's sports development officer, organised the event to get young people active and to raise the interest of the sport among young people.

The schools were picked from the School Sports Co-ordinator Clusters from Tewkesbury and Cleeve areas where the young people tried out different shots and fun games on the driving range with more than 12 different golfing activities being offered to all the schools.

"This is a partnership between the Sports Development, Sherdons and the schools which could be developed over the years," Beard declared.

"New School Sport co-ordinators Ian Brownhill and Richard Simpson are also opening up further opportunities for young people to become involved with different sporting activities."

Tewkesbury C of E School students won the best behaved school award on the day and they will get £100 of sports equipment for their school.

Cleeve and Twyning Primary School also won smaller prizes, while a special thank-you goes out to the 20 Year 10 students from Tewkesbury Secondary School who helped make the festival so successful.
