Run feast in the sunshine

A SUN drenched week of cricket was enjoyed by players, members and spectators alike for the annual festival at Bourton Vale.

The first match against the Gentlemen of Worcester, where the Vale chased a declared target of 290 was won thanks to a century from James Winstanley in the penultimate over.

This was followed by another win against the Gloucest-ershire Gipsies where Bourton posted a total of 295.

The Gipsies set about the chase in great spirit led by skipper Charlie Pritchard who made 75, but in the end the task was just too much as their last wicket fell with two balls to spare and ten runs needed.

Wednesday brought Warw-ickshire Imps usually the strongest team of the week, and so it was this time.

Bourton had to chase yet another score close to 300 and despite a good start the tail fell away and the home side were bowled out, 40 runs short.

It was the turn of home opener Rob Langley to score a century in Thursday's match against the Cryptics, helping to compile a total of 250.

In reply, The Cryptics made a valiant chase but missed the target by 15 runs.

The final game against Old Decanians was another high scoring game.

Bourton batted first and again put together a score of 280. The visitors, with David Lane scoring a century, got their winning run in the last few overs.

Over 500 runs were scored on each day, which is a credit to James Collett and Mat Walton who prepared the excellent wickets for each game.

Bourton travelled to top of the table Kidlington last Saturday in their Cherwell League Division One enco-unter.

They won the toss and batted and despite the on and off field activities of the Cricket Week managed to score 217 with skipper Nick Anderson top scoring with 65.

It was not enough to hold Kidlington and, with Marley Richards son of the legendary Viv in full flow, they got to the winning post with six wickets to spare.
