Flights of fantasy

IMAGES inspired by music are on display in Chipping Campden.

A range of Indian ink abstracts by David Birch will be displayed at The Guild Exhibition Room in Sheep Street until Saturday, August 6.

The images, inspired by Shostakovich's 15 string quartets, have been created by tracing the pattern of a bird's flight, inspired by the music. David felt they could be called audiographics or sound drawings. The works were requested for an exhibition at the Michael Tippet Centre in Bath to coincide with the Rubio String Quartet's playing of the 15 string quartets in concerts throughout February 2004.

The works were also exhibited for three weeks at Goldsmiths College, London culminating in a Shostakovich study day with invited speakers from all over the world.

David's artwork is accompanied by contemporary furniture by Robin Furlong, who has received three prestigious Guild Marks from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
