Sharks show seven-up fizz

SEVEN of Stratford Sharks junior swimmers spent the weekend at Rugby competing in Northampton SC's Summer Festival.

They returned home with a haul of 25 medals after a tough competition involving competitors from as far afield as Lincoln and Essex.

The handful of girls and two boys came away with a couple of wins courtesy of Becky Tame in the 11-year 200m breaststroke and Lydia Ratclif in the 50m freestyle in the same age group.

There were five other top three finishes with Megan Stanley (10) claiming three of them in a superb haul of seven medals.

Tame claimed another in her collection of six medals and ten-year-old Josh Walker the fifth along with his two other placings.

The other medals were spread among Frances Goss (10), Josh Newman (11), Lily Russel-Wilks (11) and Lucy Tame (9) who were all unlucky not to pick up more success having finished just outside the medal positions in 16 other races.

With many of the swimmers competing over longer distances for the first time, the medal haul in such tough competition was an excellent result and real encouragement for the future.

Hopefully, the success will inspire other junior Sharks to compete in future events including their own Club Championships in September.
