Plans to install a POD for Shipston youths

YOUNG people in Shipston will benefit from a new recreational facility if plans are given the green light.

Town mayor Stephen Grey is looking at a proposal, together with the council to install a Positive Operational Drop-In Strategy (POD) in the town to give youngsters a place to congregate and take part in various activities.

A POD is a portable unit and provides a meeting place, refreshment and advice from workers.

A variety of sports equipment and basic art materials are also available.

The initiative, supported by Warwickshire County Council and the police, has already seen success in Leamington.

At present, the town council are deciding if the mobile unit was given the go-ahead where it will be placed in the town.

Cllr Grey said: "We have to give it a try as we don't have any other strategy. We know that entertainment for young people is an issue in the town and this could provide a solution."

A site is yet to be decided on but Cllr Grey said Shipston Sports club was one possibility.
