Not amused as Victoria inflict Town's first loss

TEWKESBURY'S Saturday side failed to win for the first time this season when they crashed out of the GFA Cup to pacy Stroud opposition.

The afternoon started well for the home side as stand-in captain George Kirby broke the offside trap to open the scoring.

Celtic replied almost instantly and then quickly added a second - both goals the result of poor tracking back from midfield.

Simon Brown equalised within five minutes when he latched on to Leom Holley's through ball but the visitors again took the lead with a fine lob over Jason Simpson from the edge of the penalty area.

Sam Pope put Town back on level terms with a fine run and shot but Celtic once again made the most of poor marking before half-time.

Brown then played the ball across the box for Joe Goodwin to fire in from close range to make it 4-4.

Although Town were now controlling the game and pressing for goals, Celtic exploited the change in formation and go two goals to the good as Town pressed forward.

Paul Kavanagh, Ian Butler and Kirby all had chances to grab a goal back before substitute Dave Goodwin fired in from Holley's corner to set up a frantic last five minutes.

But, for all of Town's possession and chances, it was their poor defensive display that saw them crash out.

Tewkesbury visit Cheltenham Saracens in the Charities Cup on Saturday.

THERE was further woe as the Sunday side also suffered County Cup woe.

Town were the better side in many parts of the game but were unable to capitalise on their chances.

Paul Kavanagh missed a number of good chances while George Kirby blasted over from close range.

Danny Sollis also missed an excellent opportunity to grab Town a goal as they were knocked out by a solitary strike.
