Chippy Old Boys 6,
Witney Royals 1
CHIPPY finally got their Banbury Veterans League season kick-started as they avenged an earlier County Cup first round exit.
The Magpies were surprisingly out of the blocks early and Tom Edginton broke clear on the right of the box to fire the ball into the opposite corner after ten minutes.
The league's top scorer Phil Heath quickly followed suit and Thorley then made it 3-0 with a diving header before Edginton netted his second before the break.
The Royals never gave up in the second half but their defence was breached for a fifth time when Heath neatly rounded the keeper to score a rare goal with his left foot prior to an even rarer right-footed volley by Sean Case.
The inside of a post denied Edginton his hat-trick before a gallant Witney side snatched a late consolation.
