Cheltenham Saracens 2,
Tewkesbury Town 6
TEWKESBURY Town moved into the quarter-finals of the League Cup following Saturday's defeat of one of their closest rivals in Cheltenham League Division Five.
They started rather nervy and gifted the home side a goal. However, Town hit back within five minutes when Leom Holley's corner was headed powerfully into the net by Dave Goodwin.
While Town's players were still celebrating, Saracens made the most of a daydreaming defence to fire the ball past Jason Simpson.
Town then upped a gear and both Joe Goodwin and Paul Kavanagh went close before the latter close levelled with a header from another Holley flag-kick.
Simpson had a quiet second half as Town's change in tactics allowed them to dominate for long periods.
George Kirby caused constant problems on the left while Simon Brown was controlled the centre of midfield.
Sam Pope was also causing problems and, within minutes of the start of the second half, he had given Tewkesbury the lead with a fine solo effort.
Ian Butler then made it 4-2 with a superb volley following another Holley corner and the kicker then made it a quartet of assists as Kavanagh headed in his second.
Substitute Gavin Philpot came close to scoring a sixth before fellow substitute Warren Deighton completed the scoring after a well-worked move to book a date with Star in the next round.
The section leaders return to league action on Saturday when they play host to Finlay Rovers.
