A champion show for festive season

SHOW chairman Alistair Albutt, of Great Washbourne, took the award for the champion beast at the Andoversford Christmas Primestock Show and Sale.

His champion was a Limousin weighing in at 640kgs which won the heifer class and at the sale was sold for 212p kg £1293.20 to Bruce Phillips, The Village Butcher. Reserve champion was the winner of the steer class, a Limousin weighing 640kg from D.E. Cheacker and bought by Graham Gilder at 143p kg.

Messrs J.D. Hughes & Son (Haselton) took the three unhaltered classes. Their steer, a Limousin x weighing 595kg sold at 138p kg, their heifer a Limousin weighing 595kg sold at the same price and their pair, Limousins weighing 510kg and 480 kg sold at 107p kg and 118p kg. They were all bought by Frank Bayliss.

Three of the four sheep classes were won by P.J. Houldey, of Hasfield, Tewkesbury. The champion pen of lambs, the under 40kg class winner, made £92 a head to David Morgan, of The Golden Heart, Nettleton Bottom, the over 405kg class winner and reserve champion made £82 a head to Farmers Fresh, and the Continental x class made £69 a head to Mr Morgan. The class for none-Continental sheep was won by B. Robinson and made $3 a head to Farmers Fresh.

"There was a good company of buyers in attendance and the high quality of animals presented for show was reflected in the prices," said Chris Voyce, of Andoversford Market Auctioneers Ltd.
