Star Charity hopes dimmed by Town's seven-up sparkle

TEWKESBURY overcame a potentially tricky cup tie with relative ease on Saturday to progress into the Charity Cup semi-finals.

Both teams started brightly but neither created early chances with Jake Pettitt hitting a post before forcing a fine save from the Star goalkeeper.

The opening came midway through the first half when Sam Pope's through ball found Pettitt who made no mistake.

Paul Kavanagh made it two straight after the break when he lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.

George Kirby's probing run then ended with a foul in the box to give Stuart McCash the opportunity to notch his first goal of the season.

Substitute Gary Simms set up Pettitt for his second Star snatched a goal back.

Joe Goodwin's predatory instincts gave him the chance to make it 5-1 with a tap-in before Simms got the sixth following a fine team move.

Substitute Dan Johnson forced a fine save before a Star own goal under pressure from the energetic Ian Butler rounded off the scoring.

Tewkesbury will meet either Naunton Park or Cleevonians in the next round on Wednesday, April 5.

TOWN'S Sunday side recorded their first Eves-ham League win of the season against their title chasing hosts.

The visitors fielded a strong side and this helped them restrict Oddfellows to shots from outside the box for the whole game.

Pettitt had another good game for Town and he opened the scoring in the first half after a neat one-two with Kavanagh.

Town went two up within minutes of the restart when Pettitt went through on goal before being taken down inside the box. He managed to brush himself off before placing the ball in the top right corner.

The scorer then completed his hat-trick after a neat turn bamboozled a defender before he smashed the ball past a helpless goalkeeper.
