Elite stay on top

Evesham and District Table Tennis Association

WYRE Elite still top Divis-ion One despite losing their 100 per cent winning streak when they were held to a 5-5 draw by Kington Bulldogs.

Darrell Wiltshire picked up three wins for Elite with Gra-ham Fisher and Keith Fergu-son picking up one apiece.

Andrew and Ernie Smith both won two games and teamed up to win the doubles to earn their side a draw against the defending champions.

Against Livewyres, the leaders made light work of their neighbours with a 7-3 success despite Livewyre boasting Mark Bilsborrow who has returned to play locally.

Moving up to second are Littleton Aces after recording a brace of wins over Benge-worth Red (9-1) and the Bulldogs (7-3). However, they stuttered against Wyre Wanderers who held their lofty opponents to a 5-5 draw.

Luke Moffat recorded three wins for the Aces while also teaming up with Taylor only to lose their first doubles game of the season in four sets to Doug Payne and Chris Penny.

Third-placed Bengeworth Tigers have two games in hand over the leading pair after registering a 6-4 win against Littleton Borg.

The shock of the night came when Rob Sinderberry overcame former men's champion Grahame Brown in five sets.

Borg remain fourth after a 5-5 draw against Wyre Live-wyre with Paul Witts earning a treble. Tristan Gretton was also able to defeat Malcolm Macfarlane for the second time this season after a five-set thriller.

The battle at the bottom continues to heat up with Kington collecting some valuable points.

They slumped badly to Wyre Wanderers but picked up their form with an impressive 5-5 result against Bengeworth Red to claim two vital points.

Red also faced Bengeworth Purple who are also involved in the fight at the bottom and recorded a 7-3 victory that saw the losers pick up a point thanks to Lynda Reid's two wins.

The bottom two locked horns with Bengeworth Blue beating Purple 6-4 to give the winners a glimmer of light in their bid to avoid the wooden spoon. Reid again recorded a win double.
