Event fails to draw artists

ARTISTS in the Shipston area are proving to be a little slow at coming forward to take part in one of Warwickshire biggest art events.

Warwickshire Artsweek 2006 takes place in the county from July 1 to 16 but so far very few artists from Shipston, Tredington, Brailes, Long Compton and the surrounding areas have applied to take part.

Artsweek aims to enable artists and craftspeople to show their work in galleries, open studios, restaurants, churches, garden centres and even on vehicles.

During the last such event, Shipston hosted an arts trail around shop windows displaying the work of local artists and promoting their open studios.

Susan Lewis, community development of office for regeneration body Stour Power said: "This year Stour Power and Warwickshire Artsweek want to make the south of Warwickshire's event even bigger and better." Artists wanting to take part should complete a registration form on www.warwickshireartsweek.co.uk/register or contact the County Arts Service on 01926 412492 or your area co-ordinator, artist Ros Ingram on 01789 450877 or by email on rosingram1@aol.com, to request a form.
