ACTRESS Charmaine Goode has landed her first major professional role - without having to move far from her home in the Vale.
Charmaine, from Cleeve Prior, is taking over the role of the nurse Tom in Kayelle's tour of the bitter-sweet comedy Mompesson's Well, which takes in another eight venues between now and the middle of March.
"I really enjoyed the script," said Charmaine, who turned professional in July.
"The characters are really interesting. And the whole piece is a puzzle, but it's so well written that just makes it more exciting."
The 23-year old discovered her ambition to act at Evesham High School. "I had a very inspiring drama teacher, and he recognised that being on stage brought me out of myself. So I joined the Worcestershire Youth Music Theatre for Guys and Dolls and that was that."
She went on to study at Stratford college and insists that being on stage is an "amazing feeling".
"I created a part for myself based on the mother in A Child Called It, and that taught me how much fun it can be playing something intense against type."
Charmaine comes from a farming family and says she has no plans to move away from the Vale.
"The chance to work with a local professional company was too good to miss," she said.
Mompesson's Well, the second professional tour by Norton-based Kayelle, tells the strange tale of a man on the verge of madness and death and his relationships with a nurse and a psychiatrist.
Charmaine plays alongside Kayelle director Lynn Davies and Mike Henley, who has appeared in such TV shows as Judge John Deed, Afterlife, Nighty Night and Casualty.
"The play is a tour de force," said Mike, who plays the lead role of Will Mompesson.
The play is at the Everyman in Cheltenham from Tuesday until Saturday, the Swan at Worcester on Sunday, March 9 and Number 8, Pershore, on Saturday, March 18.
