DECORATIVE AND FINE ARTS SOCIETY: The February illustrated talk was Working Miracles at Assisi. Members heard a fascinating account of the way the frescoes by Giotto of the life of Saint Francis have been repaired after the damage they suffered in the earthquake of 1997. Elizabeth Gordon was herself involved in the restoration work, having personally raised £50,000 towards it. Her slides of the actual moment of the earthquake gave a dramatic insight into the event.

The next meeting is on April 12 when the topic will be Frogmore House: A Royal Retreat. New members are welcome, contact the membership secretary on 01386 871211.
