Shrug off changes

Tewkesbury Tn 4,

Northleach Tn Res 1

MANAGER Stuart Burgess made six to the previous week's line-up in a bid to try out some new tactics and players in different positions.

The reshuffle paid off as the Cheltenham League Division Five leaders recorded a 14th straight league success.

The first half proved a tight affair with both teams having good chances. Sam Pope forced a fine save from the Northleach goalkeeper but only last-ditch defending from the hosts kept the scores level.

The deadlock was broken just before the break when a superb left-footed strike from Jake Pettitt gave Tewkesbury the advantage.

The home side were now starting to gel a little better and it wasn't long into the second period when the lead was doubled when the towering Ian Butler headed in Joe Goodwin's corner.

Pettitt made it 3-0 with a lofting shot from a tight angle before Paul Kavanagh grabbed Town's fourth.

A handball in the area by Leom Holley gave Northleach a chance to net a consolation as Jason Simpson went the wrong way from the spot-kick.

Town hit the road for Saturday's league game against Charities Cup semi- final opponents Cleevonians.

Pettit, meanwhile, packed his scoring boots the next morning as the Evesham Sunday League side defeated Defford and Besford 2-0.

Town travel to face Willersey on Sunday.
