Hole lotta cash

PUPILS at St Mary's School in Broadway have two reasons to celebrate, coming top in a Tri Golf Festival and receiving a £4,500 boost to the coffers in the form a lottery award.

The youngsters took part in the tri golf trial at St Egwin's Middle School in Evesham and beat off stiff competition from eight other schools within the Evesham High school pyramid to claim the winning title.

The children were coached by Debbie Day from the Vale Golf Club and head teacher Jacqui Le Maitre is delighted with the win and the funding: "This is a wonderful achievement for our small school," she said.

"The children had a fantastic time and it has certainly enthused them to carry on playing golf."

She added: "The £4,500 fund will go towards the school grounds and the school hall. We are going to be very busy."
