'Mindless vandals' tear down flower show signs

RESIDENTS from Eckington were left upset at the weekend after signs detailing their forthcoming village flower show were pulled down.

Veronica Colling and her husband Gerald, who spent time creating signs informing residents about the annual flower festival, discovered the notices had been removed last week.

Mrs Colling, of Jarvis Street in Eckington, said: "We noticed that the dates publicising our event had been pulled down by someone last Friday.

"It was very disappointing to see because everyone in the village has been working really hard to create a wonderful flower show for this year's event."

Eckington villagers have spent this year creating floral displays for their annual flower show which takes place over three days from Saturday to Monday, April 29 to May 1.

Mrs Colling added: "The notices were found days later by a resident but in an awful state.

"My husband will have to make new ones. It's quite upsetting to see signs wrenched off by someone in a malicious act of vandalism."

Organiser of the flower festival Joan Green, of Drakesbridge Road, Eckington, said: "I'm annoyed about someone tearing off these signs.

"I simply can't understand what pleasure it brings someone tearing down a notice. It's just mindless vandalism."

This month visitors to Eckington can enjoy a floral display at Holy Trinity Church based on the theme of shoes.
