Long wait to cross road

FURTHER to the subject of pedestrians crossing the High Street.

They did something to the traffic lights system some months ago, since then the wait buttons do not work at the crossing outside Lawrence's bakery.

Reporting this to Wychavon District Council's One Stop office has not effected any change.

One waits there at least four minutes for a green light to cross. On Saturdays the crowds build up four deep either side, then there's a huge melee in the road leaving many gasping and stranded.

The Highways Partnership or whoever sanctioned this relegation of pedestrians to the also rans should understand that they have an equal right to road space and use crossings purely for safety.

There's no indication yet of the promised crossing opposite the One Stop shop either.

The long lines of traffic daily from the viaduct bridge to the railway station should be investigated by a day-long census recording vehicle type, from and to where.

The whole problem can then begin to be analysed.
