A 'satisfactory school with satisfactory value for money' - that was the overall finding of an Ofsted inspection carried out at Offenham First School.
The school was visited in March and a report, by Ofsted inspector Alison Grainger, was published this week.
Inspectors reported that pupils at the Myatt Road school behave well and form positive relationships.
From entry to the reception year to the end of year five, pupils' progress is satisfactory and by the end of the reception year, almost all children reach goals expected of their age.
However, although most pupils reach average standards for their age, few were said to exceed them.
Leadership and management were also rated satisfactory but the school lacks rigorous procedures for self-evaluation to analyse how well teaching and the curriculum contribute to pupils' progress.
A large majority of pupils make adequate progress in years one to five but the more capable pupils do not do as well as they should because teaching and the curriculum do not provide them with consistent challenge.
Natalie Lyall, chairman of governors, said: "The grade overall was satisfactory and showed that we are in line with most schools nationally.
"As we had expected, there were many aspects of the school which were commended."
Headteacher Denise Oates commented: "One of the great strengths of the school is the excellent teamwork and I am delighted that Ofsted commented upon this, as well as the warm family atmosphere in the school."
