Medal haul improved in champion showing

TEWKESBURY Swimming Club completed a fantastic Gloucester County Championships when winning a further four gold, two silver and a bronze medal in the relay events to take their total medal haul to 58 gold, 39 silver and 36 bronze.

In addition to the rich haul of medals, the club boasted half-a-dozen junior and senior champions while many swimmers raced to new personal best times.

There was relay gold for the boys' 9-10-year team of Greg Baxter, Alexander Tailford, Adam White and Toby Gibney.

The girls' 13-14-year team of Jessica Rogers, Jessica Bayliffe, Rosie Ellis and Charlotte Parker matched that feat in the 200m medley, while the 11-12-year boys 200m freestyle squad of Russell Peek, Brett Blake, Craig Skinner and Nathan Lewis also touched for gold.

There was gold too for 15-16-year boys Ashley Dougan, Lewis Cole, Harrison Moore and Chris Yoxall in a Championship best time of 1.40.78. There were silver medals for the girls' 13-14 freestyle team and the boys' 15-16 medley team and bro-nze for the boys 9-10 freestyle squad.

At the presentation ceremony, Baxter won the top Age Group swimmer award (BAGCAT) for ten-year boys, Skinner was second in the 11-year group and Peek third in his age group.

Rogers, meanwhile, won the 13-year girls' award.

Dougan was first for freestyle in the 15 and over swimming stroke category for youth swimmers as was Cole in the butterfly. The former also achieved two National qualifying times in the 100 and 50m freestyle as did Bayliffe in the 50m freestyle.

All the coaching staff and swimmers are to be congratulated on their efforts and all are now looking forward to the forthcoming Western District Cham- pionships with confidence of furthering their best times and achieving National qualifying times.
