Cult film comes to the stage

NOMINATED for five Olivier awards including best new play, the hugely successful West End transfer of the Almeida Theatre production, Festen, will play at Malvern Theatres as part of a national tour prior to Broadway.

Patriarch Helge Klingenfelt is celebrating his 60th birthday with his family at a magnificent old house in the Danish countryside.

Gathered together are his loyal wife Else, his daughter Helene and sons Christian and Michael. As the evening progresses Christian feels compelled to break the silence surrounding a dark family secret. The effect is explosive and sets the tone for a celebration no-one will forget. Festen is based on the cult film of the same title. Festen plays at the Festival Theatre, Malvern from Monday, May 8 until Saturday, May 13. Box office: 01684 892277.
