Young people to quiz councillors

YOUNG people and councillors will be literally stepping into each other's shoes at a special event hosted by the district council.

Celebrating Youth Participation will showcase the work achieved by young people from schools, including The Cotswold and Chipping Campden Schools, in recent months.

Pupils will get the chance to swap outfits with councillors in a special fashion show to help them understand a little bit more about each other's lives.

The event tomorrow night, organised by Cotswold District Council's youth participation officer Claire Dowan, will also feature speed-meeting - giving the young people the opportunity to ask quick-fire questions of the councillors.

Live music, a video premiere and a balloon release will feature at the event at the council's headquarters in Cirencester.

Claire said: "The council has been involved in a number of projects with young people from all over the district and this event gives everyone a chance to get together and celebrate what they have achieved."

Projects to be featured include the work of the Cirencester and North Cotswold Youth Councils which have been meeting in Moreton and Cirencester over the past few months to come up with projects that benefit young people in their local communities. One of their achievements was an art competition for secondary schools, which will be on display at the event, which will also feature live music from pupils from Cotswold School, Bourton.

The event will end with a balloon release - with each balloon containing the young people's wishes for the future.

Claire said: "We're hoping the day will be informative, fun and give councillors a good opportunity to better understand the needs of local young people."
