SPRING SHOW: Moreton's WI Hall was a blaze of colour for Moreton Gardening Club's 53rd Spring Show. Thanks to the keeness of members, the show benches were a blaze of colour despite the cold spring weather.
The temperature on the morning of the show was minus five degrees, yet the only classes to be down on previous years were for tulips. The main prize-winners were: D Arthurs, P Poulton, B Tarplett, J Pye S Hopkins and J Clements.
The Dyer Cup for daffodils was won by J Clements, who also won the E Lapworth Cup for hyacinths, the Lapworth Cup for an arrangement of spring flowering shrubs, and the Arthur Saxton Cup for best exhibit in show.
The next meeting will be on May 15, with an illustrated talk on Batsford Arboretum.
LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: The Women's Institute Hall was packed at the April meeting to hear Mr. Ray Leigh, chairman of the Gordon Russell Trust, speak on Gordon Russell - the Broadway Adventure.
The last meeting of the season will be on May 10 at the WI Hall, when Tim Porter will give his popular talk on Winchcombeshire 1007-1017 A.D. Subscriptions for 2006/7 have remained at £5 and can be paid to the treasurer at the May meeting.
