Karter Will gets backing

BRITISH Championship frontrunner, Will Waterman, has received the continued backing of education sector specialists, Education Direct, as he targets this year's national karting title.

This year marks the second year of the association between Education Direct and the Moreton-in-Marsh based racer, who finished fifth overall in last year's Junior British Championships.

Racing powerful 100cc karts - with a 0-60mph acceleration of under four seconds and a top speed of 70mph - the 15-year old started as one of the pre-season favourites to take this year's title.

Education Direct - which provides suppliers of education materials with software solutions and targeted direct mail services - is set to back Waterman in the six-round championship and a number of other major televised events.

Director, Jason Gould, commented: "Will is a very promising young racing driver and we're keen to see that his talents don't go to waste simply because of a lack of funding.

"He had a tremendous season last year and is getting better all the time, so I see no reason why you won't be hearing a lot more of his name in years to come."

Waterman bounced back from a disappointing opening round of the championship, to storm from 26th to ninth place in round two of this year's Championships at the Kimbolton raceway, near Cambridge.

Having sorted out some performance issues with his new race kart, Waterman is targeting a podium finish at the next event at his home circuit of Whilton Mill, near Daventry on Sunday, May 14.
