Sharks shining bright

OPENING round action in the Mercian League saw Stratford Sharks A team victorious.

Competition takes place over three rounds with the top six teams overall making the final.

On the night there were 13 first and second places and 23 personal bests.

The ten-year girls and boys freestyle relay teams got off to a great start both winning thanks to the efforts of Gwe-nnan Williams, Laura Bryan Emmy Shaddick and Lucy Tame, George Purchon, Zach Brough, Matt Newman and Andrew Morley.

The 12-year-old girls added to the points in a hard-fought race to win with Georgie Mackey, Eve Morley, Becky Tame and Caroline Ankrett having to fight all the way.

The first individual win went to Eve Morley in the 12-year 100m breaststroke. Hattie Beaumont also led from the start in the 14-year category and she then went on to win the 100m butterfly.

Fran Cassidy-Morris added more points with a second in the Open Category for both the 100m fly and breaststroke. The latter was obviously the form stroke on the night for the girls with Laura Bryan winning the ten-year 50m.

Charli Cassidy-Morris and Becky Sherren - Open and 14-year 100m backstroke - both touched second with the latter improving that finish to win the 100m freestyle.

Lucy Tame and Gwennan Williams followed up relay success when finishing second in the 50m freestyle and butterfly respectively. Becky Tame also finished second in the 12-year 100m freestyle.

Matt Newman had the only win for the boys on the night in the ten-year one-length butterfly, while 12-year swimmers Joe Dancer (breast) and Aaron Brough (50m fly) both claimed second place finishes.

Shaddick, Bryan, Williams and Lucy Tame finished their evening winning the ten-year medley relay as they started in the freestyle, while the 14-year medley team was also successful thanks to Becky Sherren, Hattie Beaumont, Becky Tame and Lydia Ratcliff.

The boys 12-year freestyle team fought hard to ensure a relay win courtesy of Michael Ankrett, Joe Dancer, Aaron Brough and Josh Newman.

The ladies Open team finished the final section winning both the freestyle and medley relays with Charli and Fran Cassidy-Morris and Yvonne Caswell swimming in both and joined by Hattie Beaumont and Becky Sherren.
