Final concert is celebration

THE finale of Stour Singers 30th anniversary season takes place next weekend.

The programme, appropriately titled Celebrations, opens with Haydn's Te Deum for the Empress Maria Therese, a festive piece written in response to repeated requests from his royal admirer, who was very fond of singing.

Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton attended the first authenticated performance directed by Haydn on September 8, 1800.

The singers will then contribute to the worldwide celebration of Mozart's birth 250 years ago with the Coronation Mass..

The programme on Saturday, May 13 at 7.30pm in St Edmund's Church, Shipston, also includes a youthful Faure's much-loved Cantique de Jean Racine.

The music is shared with the Cherwell Orchestra and the soloists are Juliet Schiemann (soprano), Claire Bartram (mezzo soprano), Nicholas Mulroy (tenor), and Simon Thorpe (baritone). The conductor is Richard Emms.

Tickets cost £7.50 from choir members, Clarkes, and on the door. Accompanied children have free admission.

The choir welcomes new members. For details contact Vic Twyman on 01608 664215.
