John's trophy re-ward!

THE Whitsun and Spring Lakes were used for the Sum-mer Trophy competition sta-ged at Lenches Lakes last Sunday.

A beautiful bronze sculpture by the late David Hughes accompanied by a full day ticket was the prize for the Fly Fisher catching the heaviest three fish of the morning.

Competitors drew for their stands and fished in ideal conditions for 30 minutes before moving round two stands to commence the next half-hour session of the five-hour event.

The winner of the magnificent trophy was John Ward from Kenilworth who had three fish weighing 7 lb 6oz.

The runners-up were Tony Wood (Besford), John Nelson (Worcester) and David Davies (Longlevens) who all received day tickets.

Warmer temperatures and brighter days have led to some frantic fly activity at the venue.

The majority of fly fishers have started with floating lines and dry flies, with the option of putting a heavier fly on.

Successful flies over the past week have been May Fly, Buzzers, Nymphs, Damsels and Hares Ears.
