Dave's deadly spell

VETERAN Dave Murphy has obviously wintered well if his opening stint with the ball in the Cotswold Hills League is anything to go by.

Murphy grabbed five wickets for five runs as Shipston cantered to a nine-wicket win over Broadway last Saturday.

The visitors could only field ten men when play got under way after a rain delay and they made a promising start with three of the top four batsmen reaching double figures.

However, Gary Betteridge was soon among the wickets and his three-wicket spell precipitated a collapse from 39-1 to 79 all out.

Murphy swept aside the tail in spectacular fashion with the last six batters managing a solitary run between them!

Shipston captain Julian Morris and fellow opener Matt Corby then hurried the hosts to victory with the latter the only wicket to fall on what proved a torrid afternoon for the losers.
