DUMBLETON suffered a brace of lea-gue defeats last Sat- urday with the second string featuring in a thrilling finish at home to Lydney.
Chasing 271 for victory, Matthew Cull set the tone with a neat 60 at the top of the order but, with the total at 136-4 and only 12 overs left, a win seemed an impo-ssible task.
However, Bertie Thompson smashed six 6s in a quickfire 85 to leave the target 20 off the last over.
Matt Donger sla-mmed 16 off the ope-ning four balls but could only scramble two off the last ball when a boundary would have sealed the unlikeliest of wins.
The first team slumped from 84-1 after 21 overs to 163-9 at the close of their 45-over innings at Kingsholm.
Mike Gibson top scored with 40 but the chasers encountered few problems as they eased to a five-wicket win with five overs to spare.
A sorry weekend was completed when Dumbleton crashed out of the npower Village Cup after a five-run reverse at Redmarley.
