Clean-up on the cards after FISSC whitewash

CHAMPIONS Stratford-on-Avon are already beginning to draw away from the pack at the top of the Premier Division after they defeated FISSC 4-0 to move five points clear at the top of the table.

Nearest challengers Studley could only manage a 2-2 draw with Henley-in-Arden, while Littleton climbed to third after beating Shipston 3-1.

Inkberrow climbed up to fifth, leapfrogging Claverdon, who they defeated 3-1.

Scores - Stratford 4, FISSC 0: Callum Bailey & Rob Slatter bt Ali Kashani & Matt Baker 6-1, 6-0 & Nigel Yates & Mike Hardwick 6-2, 6-2. Simon West & Richard Monk bt Yates & Hardwick 6-2, 6-4, & Kashani & Baker 7-5, 6-3.

Studley 2, Henley 2: Tim Burns-O'Regan bt Dave Innes & Clive Dalton 7-6, 6-4 & Mel McGregor & Derek Northam 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Dave Howard & Chris Kirby lost McGregor & Northam 2-6, 3-6 & Innes & Dalton 1-6, 1-6.

Littleton got their season going at last with a 3-1 victory over newly promoted Shipston.

Captain Sean Witheford and Dave Rudge led the way with victory over Ed Bosley and Cameron Malik 6-4, 6-2, and Barry Tugwood and Bill Cheney 6-0, 6-0.

Sean's brother Scott teamed up with Richard Herbourn to get the better of Tugwood and Cheney 7-5, 6-1 but lost out 6-2, 6-0 to Bosley & Malik.

Inkberrow recorded their first victory thanks mainly to the efforts of captain Alex Woodbridge and partner Adam Hill who just edged out Nigel Bacon and Andy Williams 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 before overcoming Richard Butler and Pawan Pandya 6-4, 6-2.

Tim Kenneally and Gordon Keir lost 6-4, 7-5 to Butler and Pandya but took victory after another epic fight against Bacon and Williams (2-6, 6-4, 7-5).

There was a change at the top of Division One when Chipping Campden defeated FISSC B 4-0.

Previous leaders Evesham were held 2-2 by Tanworth-in-Arden to leave Campden a point clear at the summit.

Other results: Stratford C 4, Bidford 0; Aston Cantlow 2, Littleton B 2.

Moreton continued their winning ways in Division Two with a good 3-1 win over Stratford D in straight sets to open up a two-point gap at the top.

Stratford E dropped a point after being held to a 2-2 draw by Inkberrow B. Pershore did their chances a power of good with an emphatic 4-0 victory over HDA Redditch, while Alcester stay mid-table after drawing 2-2 with Studley B.

Division Three saw new leaders as Littleton C powered to a 3-1 victory over Snitterfield to leapfrog Ilmi-ngton who were held to a 2-2 draw by Whitnash.

Ardencote and Chipping Campden B maintained their positions, the former with a 3-1 victory over Bidford B while Campden drew 2-2 with Claverdon B.

The top of Division Four remains unchanged with after top two Alcester B and Claverdon C drew 2-2.

Moreton B overtook Henley B after an excellent 3-1 success while Harbury swapped places with Shipston B after a 3-1 win.

Other result: Ullenhall 0, Studley C 4.
