Pupils in art centre debut

EVESHAM Arts Centre has another varied program of events lined up for June.

Relive the sound and excitement of the 60s with leading Beatles tribute band The Upbeat Beatles on Friday, June 2.

A regular attraction as a popular Beatles tribute band at outdoor festivals, theatres, corporate functions and Beatles conventions the Upbeat Beatles are just as much at home performing to young students or to those who remember the Fab Four the first time around.

On Saturday, June 10 the Arts Centre choir holds its summer concert with favourites including Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo, music by Joseph Horovitz, with clever and very witty lyrics by Michael Flanders.

Written in 1970 it was the first collaboration of Flanders and Horovitz and is a light-hearted oratorio based upon the biblical story of Noah and his Ark.

The evening will also include special guests, pupils from Pinvin First School, who will perform extracts from The Wizard of Oz.

Evesham Decorative and Fine Art Society comes to the centre on Wednesday, June 14 with an Illustrated talk by Valerie Woodgate entitled, Picasso and his Women.

On Friday, June 16 the Ternichka Belarussian Children's Folk and Dance Group will perform.

Part of a UK tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, children and young people will be performing traditional Belarussian song, dance and circus skills.

The concert will also feature the children of Pinvin First School in aid of Chernobyl Children's Project UK.

On Saturday, June 17 there's another stand-up- comedy night. The evening of stand-up comedy features class comics, Steve Day plus Kerry Godliman and Barry Dodds with David Ward as master of ceremonies to keep them in order.
